Vampire books overdone or lots of fun

As a writer I love writing out my thoughts on the mythical creatures. Vampires was a favourite of mine. The question I think of a lot is are books about vampires overdone or still lots of fun.

There is no simple answer to this. There are many books and shows that have become cliche of mindless creatures or the cliche of all vampires are sex driven fiends and just misunderstood.

To me vampire books and shows are a lot of fun but seldom are they done well. A prime example is Twilight where they are brooding and manipulative as well as craving human love and emotions.

Then you get Joss Wedons creation of Buffy where you see soulless killers such as Angelus and Spike but who were changed to good with magic that baffles the mins and seems to be darker than the vampires themselves

While I liked Twilight I think brooding and sullen vampires just have been played out. There needs to be a new style and I have been attempting to create something different in my own work.

Anna Strong is a great female character that is a vampire and I love how the author Jeanne C Stein can make them feel more human and it is one of two series I hold up for others to see what are good. The other one is joycelynn drake and her Mira series. She shows that vampires can be not so evil as well as she shows how the supernatural communities can work together.

While I do think some items are less attractive I do enjoy seeing some great writing even if they tend to overuse the same archetypes
