Writing is a Journey

I have been trying to write short stories for years but this past year I have pushed it a bit more than normal as I really want to see what I can do with it.

I see posts talking about self publishing as if it was a vanity publishing. These are two very different styles of publishing.

Self publishing you have control of your work and you foot the bill and have final say in every aspect of the process.

Vanity is where you pay for the privaledge of having a publisher out your work out there. You are paying for everything but have no real control.

These types of publishers take advantage of the naive authors who don’t understand that they should be paid for the work they do.

It would be the same in a 9 to 5 job you are paid by the company you don’t pay them for you to do all the work.

As someone who wishes to publish his own work of fiction I will definitely do self publishing as I want to have my control and be able to determine what is best for me.

This leads me to another point just because you are self published or even indie published it doesn’t mean that there is a lack of quality. The fact is there is a great deal of high quality work out out by these authors.

Yes there are some who self publish who don’t have the talent that a lot of us expect or that they don’t have their manuscript edited properly or don’t get a cover designed that will attract the readers. Yes self publishing has lead to some of this as it is much easier now to get published especially in the age of digital books.

I love my self published books and find that most of those I have been lucky to read have been too quality in fact some were better edited than the traditionally published books. Yes there will always be misses no matter how careful both author and editor are.

We as readers must forgive the occasional issue and just learn to enjoy the book. As for the authors we also need to forgive ourselves as well when we have an error especially when a person who reviews catches it. We are only human.
