One of the best all around books in the Expanded Universe that is Star Wars. It has so many characters that are intriguing and so full of zest.
This was my first real taste of the piloting items and had me hooked as Wedge was and is one of my favourite characters. I don’t think that will ever change. He has such depth and is a lot of fun to see.
Meeting Corran was also great as again he became one of my favourites. His drive and abilities made him push to the forefront of what I love with this book. A born leader who has so much more to offer than even he realizes.
I find that fighter squadron style of books this by far is the best. There is so much going on and with so many characters that you learn more about as the series goes on.
The story is about reforming the squadron and all the inherent issues that occur when trying to replace the greats from the past.
The author did a phenomenal job I’m writing an exciting book that didn’t just detail only piloting but everything that goes from ground crews to other missions.
The dog fighting scenes were great and really weren’t too over the top. They had a penchant for actually holding back at times. The ground fighting scenes were done well but could have used a bit more panache. The best thing is the imagery that they out into the book.
It really shows that Star Wars fans are great and what they like. The fact that these books have continued to be a top for many of us has to show that. We have a lot of great ways to celebrate the expanded universe and in some ways this is it.
The only issue I really had that some of the interesting characters that I think could have made the book really pop weren’t main characters and seemed like they were just quick stops in the expanding universe.
