Mixed martial arts

I am a huge fan or was a huge fan of the mixed martial arts especially from 10 to 15 years ago.

I remember the stylistic fighters who were the backbone of the MMA in its infancy. People such as Joyce Gracie or Dan Severn were both amazing fighters who were very single style fighters.

Then you had brawlers who pushed the boundaries quite a bit as well. I respected them a lot at the time because they were up against people who were amazing.

I have been reading a lot of MMA books and have really enjoyed the books especially by people like Ronda Rousey who revolutionized the women’s league especially in UFC.

When I read one book I really felt upset by comments made that it was watered down now and that he made it feel like it was stylistic fighters weren’t as talented or that he was better. This MMA star came off as arrogant and not showing respect for other fighters.

Yes MMA has changed and in some ways for the better including changes to the rules. I also love the increased skill levels and learning of multiple styles.

Yes the past had the best fighters that I really know. I do have my favourites and I will still watch newer fighters but I don’t get the same entertainment I once did.

A few of my favourite fighters were mainly from Pride FC which used ropes and not the cage. The best was Wanderlei Silva and Kazushi Sakuraba. They both were trailblazers foe them. Especially with pro wrestling showing that it wasn’t just fake and that they could really fight.
