Cry to Me by Joyce Schneider

Cry to Me

Book blurb

Liddy Bell shot her husband – or did she? In the middle of a party she’s giving with her guests just feet away? Liddy’s sister Kim, a true crime writer, struggles to prove her sister innocent.

Warren Bell was a powerful tech CEO; the party was to celebrate the purchase and restoration of his and Liddy’s 1920s mansion. No one heard the shots that killed him and wounded Liddy. The band was loud and guests were scattered. When the police declare the crime a failed murder-suicide attempt and Liddy as their suspect, her sister Kim is devastated and insists it’s a setup. Wyatt’s handsome brother David and Liddy’s closest friends try to help Kim investigate…but questions arise. Could Liddy have only pretended to be happy, snapped, and shot her husband? Above all, Kim’s worst anguish is wondering if she ever really knew her sister…

With a hurricane approaching, the police put their investigation on hold, and those closest find themselves all under one roof. Relationships unravel, and Kim thinks, “This is terrifying. We’re all five of us in this house. At night in a hurricane with no power…and a terrible feeling of menace. I can’t shake it.”

My Thoughts

This started out very strong showing a very agitated Liddy who seems to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. The way she talks seems very suspenseful and so full of something not sure if it was fear or loathing or maybe even just the fact she was stressed.

Kim is the sister of Liddy and I found her so intriguing especially as you see from her vantage point as an outsider. It is very interesting seeing her way of thinking about her sister, her family as well as her brother in law Wyatt.

I will admit that there are some trigger events while they are more just mentioned this may not be for everyone.

The characters are superb I really like Winnie even if she isn’t a person I would care to really have as a friend. She does seem to have a lot of care for her friends. Her story makes me feel sad as you can see just how much pain she is in.

Winnie makes me smile at times as I think she has the most amazing character showing her flaws almost as if they are a badge of courage. I love that she isn’t perfect and thay she seems to be struggling with her past and her present. It makes it feel even more realistic.

This book has really made my month. The story is powerful and has everything I like. This has mystery and intrigue as well as a touch of romance.

Andrew I wanted to strangle he was the master manipulator and abusive nature. He madee so annoyed that I kept hoping he would do something stupid and get hurt.

David is a good designed character but for some reason he just didn’t resonate with me. I don’t know if it is just his tone at times but he didn’t become a character that I cared what happened to.

The book has so much suspense as you work through the mystery of what happened. Most of the book I was perplexed as I kept trying to figure out who really was the guilty party.

I think that honestly makes for a tremendous book is it keeps you guessing trying to figure out the real story.

About ¾ of the way through I figured out the killer but it was not easy and it was just a hunch that turned out was right.

It was a very good book with so much in it. It gave me chills and I really want to read more
