Books and reviews

What I want to know from those who follow me is a few things. I will out the questions and then will out my opinion after each question.

What is your ideal length of review?

For me I would say anywhere between 250 and 500 words I where I want to have my reviews. I don’t usually put a synopsis of the book or the blurb unless I am also on the tour.

Do you prefer detailed reviews or more what we felt about the book?

For me I don’t go heavy into detail as it could give away parts of the plot that is best left to the reader to find on themselves. I tend to write more about the characters and then how I felt about the book.

Can the hype surrounding a book impact reviews?

To me this is definitely a yes as you constantly hear about a book and how amazing it is you then are expecting so much from the book and it would then be a let down. Some prime examples for me are Verity and The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Both of those books were hyped up and when I read them I was not really impressed.

Do you read reviews before you read a novel?

I only do that if I am struggling with determining if I will read it. I don’t want to potentially be influenced when I am doing my own reviews. I think that anytime you read them it will colour potentially what you are thinking and could even be watching for items instead of being lost in the read.
