This is one of my all time favourite books that this author released. It deals with Kerowyn showing her from a fairly young adult all the way up to her being an older adult.
This book has so many plot points including the most traditional of them the quest. That is in the first part where Kerowyn is the only one who can go to save her brother’s bride with little to no experience in weaponry.
The tale goes through how she did this and because of her heroic act she then decides life in her family home just isn’t for her.
This book also brings back in some of the most well thought out characters in Kethry and Tarmac from the Vows and Honour duology and many short stories. These two aren’t the main focus but they enhance the story of training and also Kero relationships.
This book is longer than many of them that were part of the series before this but is a standalone novel however to get the full impact you need to read all the novels about Tarma and Kethry to get the full story and really understand the events that transpire.
I read this book years ago and read it every couple of years and find that the book still holds my attention and has one of the most engrossing of the stories.
For me this definitely a book that you shouldn’t miss out on as it has a little bit of everything from strong story telling to strong characters that grow and even a touch of romance.
