Arcane Call: Path of the Ranger book 13 by Pedro Urvi

This series has been great however I found myself with this book not fully immersed in the story as I had with other books. The fact that it has taken me quite some time to get through this when the other books were done within a few days tells me that I didn’t click with this book.

After a hard mission each of the Rangers from the Panthers are at leisure. It is nice to see some of the history of the other characters and that it doesn’t all revolve around Lasgol this time which is interesting. However flipping between the characters has made this more confusing. What might have worked better for me is doing novellas about each of these characters and just focus on them and then alone.

Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the book but it felt like it didn’t have the substance that the other books had and also was a vacation book as it drifted from what I loved so much about this series.

Parts of this book that was annoying me are all the arranged weddings and that it was being forced on an innocent young lady. Not felt that they were pushing an agenda here and while in the end it seems that support was there it just seemed to be very old world thinking were marriage was for prestige, power and money instead of love.

I think my favourite parts of the story involved Nilsa who always seemed so weak and was portrayed as a very clumsy person who was so driven by the death of her father at the hands of a mage. Seeing her family showed her in such a different light one that I really enjoyed seeing.

What I like with Nilsa is we didn’t know really anything about her and now you see what her family is like and what she was also like as a child.

I do like most of it including seeing a new culture but I am finding them no longer quite so strong after so many books out. I want to really see a bit more from the other characters and want to see more about the Rangers as a whole especially now that they have a new First Ranger.
