Bastian by Mercedes Lackey

The final installment of Mags as a trainee and the journey that he takes in this book shows a huge difference between Mags in Foundation vs the Mags of Bastian.

Mags the character can be a little rough especially as his speech patterns make him harder to understand. He however has a great background story.

This book Mags returns home after being taken to Karse against his will. Coming home is not all that it could be as Mags has been gone months and everything is different except for his feelings and love of Amily.

People are tearing the Sleepgivers and what they can do so Mags is given his whites and sent on his internship under the very man who saves his life.

This book shows a lot of emotion as it shows you what Jakyr is really like and why he is how he is. It was very emotional as well it puts a nice end to the Jakyr story and comes full circle. It makes you feel good to see it even if it’s a sad story as well.

Mags story is amazing and I love seeing how he has grown and will not allow anything to ruin what he has built for himself .

The book is definitely a top read of mine and Mercedes Lackey has always shown so much sophistication with the emotional aspects of her writing. Yes she uses tropes that maybe now aren’t as likes but I think with her ability to write scenes and the connection with the characters that the Tropes can be forgiven.
