What makes me select a book to read.

This is a question I always ask myself and they this day I am still somewhat unsure of what gets me to pick up or try an author.

For hard copy books it’s simple what first makes me want to pick it up and that is a great cover. This could be a simplistic design or something that is more elaborate, it could be in full colour or black and white. It just has to attract my attention and hold it.

The next part which is for all books is the blurb. The blurb must give me at least a bit of what to expect and the characters that are housed within its pages. Even with that a well written blurb doesn’t always get me to read it.

I also use what subject matter is in the book. If it’s something that I am very interested in then it’s more than likely this will be read and sooner.

I also listen to friends who have similar tastes to me and then I will try those books. Also with the eclectic reading I do in genre and style it is inevitable that I will pick up books that I don’t care for. I will not finish a book I don’t like same as I don’t review a book I don’t like.
