This book is very interesting and I liked how the story progresses. As this is a novella they can be hard to get the pace right. It’s either way too fast or barely moves until near the end.
This book deals with Barbados and school age kids. It is a story that feels that it’s more coming into yourself and realizing just what you are about.
Ajani I like the character despite some of his comments but he has a good heart as well and he does try and do the right thing.
Alec I felt very sorry for as he is the sole white person in the school and just have felt very out of place. He knows he isn’t liked and that would wear on anyone. However I don’t enjoy the way he treats others as well. He has a habit of being bad to others and it seems for vindictive reasons.
I think that this is a very good story that has helped show right and wrong and shows that actions have consequences.
It shows that racism is rampant throughout the world. In this time it seems that the Bajan boys have a strong dislike of those who are white and will try and make the sole white boy in school into an enemy. This shows a change from the US books which shows racism the other way. It is different to what I was expecting but I like seeing the culture and the differences as well.
I loved the ending as it shows what happens when people are pushed to far.
