The jungle book is a classic and for me it is nostalgia as the Disney movie is part of my earliest memories. I have never read the book which was written by Rudyard Kipling. I am excited to see just what the author brings to enhance my love of the story.
Mowgli was a particularly fun character for me always. I enjoy the story of how he becomes part of a wolf pack. The fact that the pack protects the man cub from the tiger Shere Khan shows that the pack is what matters not the individual.
The story brings back memories of being in Beavers and Cubs as we used the names of some of the animals in the Jungle Book as leaders.
I truly believe that this story enhanced so many lives and I do believe that as a book it enhances the movie that was so instrumental to Disney.
Being a huge fan of animals I always loved Baghera the Panther as he is wise but also he is sleek and beautiful.
The imagery in the book does well especially the red flower or as we would know it as Fire. Mowgli even though he is very young by human standards he is adult by the standards of the wolves and he had no hesitation when he needed to protect father wolf.
As with what Disney has done with most of the original stories is to make them more gentle. This is not what I would call a book that is for children as it does have some darker connotations that could impact them. It also isn’t a book that you would want if you are easily impacted or triggered by anything bad happening to animals.
