Having loved the movies that they have released a out Anne of Green Gables it is no surprise that I want to read the series and see what it is like.
Anne of Green Gables the first book is where you get to meet Anne. I must say Marilla the description of her just doesn’t match with Colleen Dewhurst. It is sad because the actress played that character so well. She managed to play the character as written and I am thrilled that the character is the same.
The story is of a brother and a sister who are growing older and with no children or other family to help them out they decide to adop little boy. We all know what a calamity that was as they didn’t get what they wanted but got what they needed. In comes Anne.
Anne is so over dramatic it makes you have to laugh as she always makes everything so dramatic. She seems to always be in the wrong as noone wants her.
I love Marilla so much she has such a kind heart even if it was hidden deeply behind her mask. She is good and wants to help which makes things much better for people around her. Yes she is quicker to anger than others but she hasn’t really had the chance to deal with children.
Rachel what can one say, she is the enemy of the book for how she treats people. The fact that she makes fun of Anne for her looks is shameful. One should never poke fun at someone just for how they look.
The book really was well written with lots of nuances that the movie was never able to portray fully.
I still cry when a favourite character of mine passes away. It has always been to me the saddest part of the series. It is amazing to read this book for the first time and really feel more connected with it.
