To the people who enslaved her she is a priestess trained in the art of prophecy. To the new land she escapes to, she is an outlaw. To the natives she leads in revolt, she is a goddess.
My thoughts
Gail is Gaea is an interesting book. I had read other books by this author but always felt that something was odd with those books. This one feels different and I am finding it more enthralling at the start.
This book has a great premise and they are searching for a girl. There is a case of mistaken identity and now the poor girl Gail will be a slave. Very interesting take in this book.
The writing is very detailed but at times it feels like the conversations are stilted and more like a book made for someone very young in age.
What I am having the most issues with is the names of the places. They seem to be taking things out of our legends but changing names and making it hard for me as it does take me out of the story at times.
There have been a few misses with the editing which makes the book clunky. Most of the time I can overlook these but sometimes they just help remove me from the story. This book needs to be edited again just to pick up those little issues.
There are times that I forget about the editing issues and that’s good however I do think that this may have been rush edited which does a huge disservice to what this book is or could have been.
I think that while this is a fantasy style of book it is very weak fantasy. The reason I say that is very little magic is even discussed. They talk about the power of the seerw but it is almost an afterthought and would have pushed the book to the next level.
Don’t get me wrong I am not against the weak style of fantasy where magic is not really discussed at all or only a limited amount of discussion is had. I like the slight tinge of the psionic style abilities such as telepathy which is mentioned once as well as the ability to see the future. This feels more like a saga style book but set in a world of fantasy.
The title also doesn’t make sense as Gaea is never mentioned for the most part.
This book is very interesting and as a standalone book it was good with a very strong ending. I do think that many of my issues was editing and that the discussions just seemed stilted.
