The Vampire War

Posted July 24 2024

War: the word hung in the air like a thunderstorm was about to begin.  It had been talked about for months, and now that it was finally here many could hardly believe it upon them.

The cadres had decided that the North American vampires needed to be brought to heel and bow down as had the Asian, African and Australian vampires had.

It was hard as SummerFawn and her people knew that it was coming but while they feared the interlopers into their pristine and ordered world they also knew that they could survive and possibly even win this war.

She had her secret weapon in Aranai who was a powerful shaman of the people who almost died and was transformed into a vampire.  She also has Astucia who had joined the Bands 75 years ago.   Her mate, while he has passed away at the age of 98, she stayed with the people even though it was painful for her.

She also had the support of all of the magical community of the Canadian and Northern parts.  The shamans and wise women wouldn’t hesitate to help her and the others as the Bands were inclusive and everyone was entitled to join whether you were a vampire, magic user or even normal.  The only item was you had to believe in the magical world and you had to keep the secret from those who didn’t.

SummerFawn had long anticipated the incursion to her home and since they were the largest community it would be fought in the northern territories.

She looked at her people and was pleased with their progress.  Astucia had been training them on techniques that the European vampires would use as they kept to singular styles.  She also had warned them that the royalty wouldn’t risk their lives coming but they would promote a powerful vampire to Blood General to lead the attacks.

They had been warned by the unlikely member of the Cadres Alenna.  She was not happy with that as her friendship with Astucia and the Northern powers were what sustained her through the time when her sister had been taken from her.

They also had rumours that a number of the cadres sects were against the war including Ibrahim who had created the cadre of assassin’s. He had refused to join and use his people to kill off the vampires of this community.  He knew as no one else did that his daughter Ashlana had long hidden with them.  Now she was not there as her and husband Shane had taken an extended honeymoon in the Siberian area of Russia.

She had reached out to other groups and now had Ashlana’s people from Brazil.  They were sending up a few powerful vampires including the Protege of Ashlana, Wanderlei.  He was like Shane in power and was a telekinetic and she had heard that he had been training with Shane to make him even more formidable.  When they came it would make things easier for the Bands as they were trained very well in physical combat.

Summerfawn couldn’t count on all this help working as the Cadres were known to be sadistic when they wanted groups to join them, especially the royalty.  She had only 15 vampires here, not including Astucia.  None of them were as well versed in combat as the Europeans.

LightStar and WinterFox would be the most useful. They were twins who turned 21 years ago at the age of 21.  They were powerful in different ways: LightStar could summon the animals of the area to help and could turn himself into a polar bear.  WinterFox was also unique; she could see great distances with her inner eyes and turn herself into the Bald Eagle.  They would be very useful as scouts of spies.

SpringBear was a huge vampire who had once been thought of as a replacement for a shaman but his magic wasn’t as strong as what was needed.  His abilities would be useful as well since he could shield the minds of anyone near him.

He was being trained to protect himself physically and had taken to the sword like there was no tomorrow.

Their final member was a hidden gem.  One who wanted vengeance.  Her name was Siobhan. She had been a powerful member of the Evocateurs two centuries ago.  Her family and her people had been assaulted and killed by a group of Asian Vampires who had been led in turn by a crazed Water Elementalist.  Her special ability of firebolts would come in very handy.  The problem is she didn’t want to work too much with vampires and would only light them up if she were in danger.  She had little control over the fires now but her group in Alaska would be of assistance if things went that far.

She smiled at thinking of her people having to face the Blood General and his troops as they could easily field more than 300 vampires which would be so very many more than what she could field.  Other than here most of them were solos or duos and seldom fought in groups.  They wouldn’t be able to be as helpful since they wouldn’t be used to the way the WarBands worked.

Who would this blood general be since most of the strongest of the Cadres were kings or queens and they wouldn’t risk them.  Blood general was the equivalent rank to king or queen.  This was a good move for some as if you did your job right you would be granted kingship of a certain area.

From what she had heard they didn’t tend to last long as so many hated them that they were bychallenged by barons.  Sometimes the kingdom would founder and the barons would be running the show until there was a proper initiate who could take over.

She had not known this only because of Astucia and her ability to touch read objects.  She also had no clue who would be the one appointed as the blood general or any of his lieutenants.

A month has since come and gone and Wanderlei had finally come up to Northwest Territories and he was very pleased as they were going to take the fight to the Cadres.  He had never been a fan of them wanting to fight them so often but being stopped by his wife Ana.  Both were telekinetics which came as a shock to many since it didn’t often happen.

He had taken to the fight by training others.  He was a 7th degree black belt in Capoeira and Jiu Jitsu and also knew Muay Thai.  He was debating in a battle with his knowledge and power.

The best so far was Brightwing a vampire who was maybe 18 years of age and just turned.  She loves fighting, even showing his group just how great she was with a bow.  She had stronger magic and could even tell what gifts each vampire had just by reading them.  She would be a perfect elder one day for the Band.

Brightwing for her part took every correction well and wanted to learn the proper techniques.  She was good with capoeira tumbling like an acrobat.  She was beautiful when she was in her element.  It was shocking to see in just the week they had been here how quickly she had grown.  She would take no time at all to master the elements of any style of martial arts.

They all were looking forward to how they stacked up against the European vampires.  They hadn’t had a real challenge for a long time.  It was time for that to end.

——

The war was slow moving as the Europeans had not pushed things as hard as they could.  They were fielding a much larger force than the Bands could put together even with their allies.

Brightwing was now in the scouting party and was dealing with CloudWind a man who was probably in his 50s when he was changed.  He was a tracker that could find almost anyone.  He was instrumental in helping to find the bases of the Cadres allowing for less damage to be done to the Mother Earth.

Sitting in a small log cabin WinterFox was sending her mind out searching the land with her inner sight.  He had only recently joined the scouts and was ready to prove himself.

He was able to get past the shields since it wasn’t magic that he was using by Psionics.  He reached the camp and was seeing their conference.

Obsidian a tall dark skinned man who was from Rwanda was in the advance tent.  He had been brought in specially to help fight the Bands as he would be hard to take out.  His skin was as hard as rock, that natural armour would help him and the cadres defeat people.

The problem as he saw it was that he was a Baron and the cadres wouldn’t allow him the power to be King of his own country as they had went to war to capture those vampires of Africa nearly 100 years before.

He looked up as his aide approached him “Colonel Obsidian.  We have just been informed that the Cadres have granted the Blood General title to Qadira am older vampire from Egypt”

He nodded, he knew her well.  She was a friend of his from his days as a human and she was one of the few African vampires to be granted higher roles within the Royalty.  She had a power of superspeed as well she had access to magic at the level of adept.

“When will she arrive Teresita?”

Teresita was from the Phillipines originally, changed by the Spanish vampire Stefan.  She was diminutive with eyes that looked so soft.  It his the inner demon.  She was ruthless to the point of recklessness.  “She will be here within the hour.  Does this mean Colonel that you will be going home”

He shook his head, how he wished this would allow him to go back to his home in Rwanda.  The jungle was his best friend that he missed very much.  “No all it means is the change of who will lead the campaign against the Bands as they call themselves.  We will still be expected to contribute to the war effort.  You could be reassigned to Qadira but I doubt it as she will want one of her trusted advisors as her Aide.”

——–

WinterFox had found the Blood General name and what her powers were.  He was pleased as now that they knew what they faced with her they could try and combat it.

Many of the people were good stewards of the Earth and could help with web spells and ground traps would work against her speed.  “SummerFawn” he yelled.  He saw her enter “The Blood General will be on our territory within the hour.  Her name is Qadira and she is Egyptian with superspeed and adept level blood magic”

She nodded “Thank you WinterFox.  We will use this information to combat her and win our continued freedom.”

She rushes out as she had to speak to Astucia.  She might have information about this Blood General.  “Astucia what do you know of a vampire named Qadira?”.

Astucia growled when she heard that name “She is an older vampire whose group was nearly wiped out.  She turned on her leaders including her Sire to save her own after life.  She is trusted by a former Emporer name Klaus.  He was directly before Aristarco.  She has little regard for life as we know it, she also has no issue with sacrificing lesser vampires by that means ones with no real power.  She rose through the ranks to become one of the elite guards in the last days of Klaus.”

This wasn’t good, if she had no regard for life how would they be able to defend against her.  A madwoman was not going to be possible to out think and you couldn’t plan for the insanity of the leader.

She knew that Aranai would likely be able to assist more especially if they reached the territory that she and claimed.  The shamanic abilities would help with this.

Now the battle for the new world was upon them.  Who would come out on top and would the bands survive even partially?
