Memories Before The Sound of Music by Agathe Trapp

I am a huge fan of the movie the Sound of Music and it has always been one of my favourite movies.

This book shows how different the life of the family was and that the movie had so many points wrong.

I love the family history and finding out about the biological mother of the 7 kids.  I think it shows a lot more and you get to see what differences are and what the family was more like.

As a huge fan of the movie and reading about the life and times of family I think the movie took a lot of liberties that while it made the movie seem exceptional and showed the fear of the time I also feel it did a disservice to those who lived at that time and to the family.

I enjoyed from the standpoint of the second oldest child about her life and that the real family was not much like the one we had seen in the film.

The movie was so different showing a very different story of what happened including having to flee over the mountains to escape Germany controlled Austria.

The real story was not harrowing at all, and there wasn’t the betrayal that we all saw in the movie.  This makes it hard to truly understand why Hollywood changes everything so much from a true story and puts it into fiction with only the most limited parts of the true story.

I also liked hearing about Georg as we really never got to see much of him in the movie and he was more stern and all about discipline when in fact he was very nice and kind.
