Dystopian books can be some of the best books around as they show what could happen if things took a turn for the worse.
I love the style but I find the better ones are more in the Young Adult area. This one is no different and it falls into the category for youths. In some ways after reading this again I feel it’s more like a 9 to 12 year old book.
There are many great characters in this book. Katniss is the main character who while not the worst character, isn’t the best either. She is very protective of her sister Prim and she also knows that she is not the person who makes others better that is her sister.
Peeta is one of my most despised characters but he does drive the story along well. I just dislike the character as he seems like a stalker and he has a very addictive personality as he is addicted to Katniss.
Haymitch is my favourite character. He has so many issues with his mental health and because of that he has some very physical issues as well.
When you read this you enjoy it but you also know that this is a series and not all in the series are as good. I think that most of what I had issues with was that it just felt much younger than what it should be. With young adult books you can expect more adult themes as well as more adult concepts and relationships. They don’t have that in this book, the love was very juvenile and could have ended very badly.
Overall this book was great though with a few exceptions I outlined above. I enjoyed the story and thought it was unique that they punished those who fought against the standard.
