Starting to read this book I found the story very well paced as well as having such interesting history that they show .
I also felt shame at how these poor young ladies are treated. They are Black women of strength and character and are never treated well. I know that the time frame which is in the 40s there was much racism and segregation but I feel hot under the collar about it.
Eliza is a favourite of mine and what she goes through is scary but she is so strong and is capable of whatever she puts her mind to.
Grace is fairly annoying to me but she has a heart of gold during this. I don’t enjoy her character near as much as I was hoping to.
Johnathon is a big part of the story for Grace and he just gives me the creep vibes. I don’t know what it is but it just has me weirded out with how crazy he seems to be with Grace and doesn’t care that she keeps telling him she isn’t feeling the same way.
This book was so good definitely going to be a top read of my year I can feel it.
