Waypoints by Sam Heughan blogtour

Journey deep into the Scottish Highlands in the first memoir by #1 New York Times bestselling author and award-winning star of Outlander, Sam Heughan—exploring his life and reflecting on the waypoints that define him

“I had to believe, because frankly, I had come so far there could be no turning back.”

In this intimate journey of self-discovery, Sam sets out along Scotland’s rugged ninety-six-mile West Highland Way to map out the moments that shaped his views on dreams and ambition, family, friendship, love, and life. The result is a love letter to the wild landscape that means so much to him, full of charming, funny, wise, and searching insights into the world through his eyes.

Waypoints is a deeply personal journey that reveals as much about Sam to himself as it does to his readers.

My Thoughts

Many don’t realize that I read many books outside of fiction as well. One of my favourites are biographies and memoirs. I find them enthralling to see what others have went through or what the person is like.

The story is from Sam’s point of view and goes through much of his life. I don’t really know the actor at all but I am enjoying the story and what he wa like. It feels more real as it doesn’t seem to be forced and he seems to be a good person.

Not really knowing this actor or having watched anything that he was in I felt that reading this book I got to really see what it was like visiting the places. I didn’t pick up on the nuances for the references to his acting jobs but I did enjoy them.

Reading the book I found that I was trying to go through the names. The names of places could be difficult to pronounce and that took me out of his story to a point as I kept trying to wrap my head around the places they were.

The book is well written and you feel that you travel with him through his journey. I really enjoyed the book and wanted to see pictures or better yet I wanted to travel the way that he did so I could experience the same way.
