Where did your name come from?
Since I don’t really find the naming of myself very interesting and not worth a story I will use the story of one of the nicknames I have had and the one that has stuck with me the longest.
This is the story of Waterboy.
I was in my early 20s at most and I used to camp a lot with my family when I was younger. My brother and myself and a friend decided we were going to go camping at the Rouge Valley Campground.
I hadn’t been camping for probably 10 years or so by that point. I didn’t really know as much about camping anymore and didn’t have a clue how to set up tents or anything else.
I wasn’t of much help and my brother and our friend were doing most of the set up work so they decided to give me a job that was easy.
This was tent camping so it’s not like you had it easy so we didn’t have water that was right at our fingertips. My job was to get water so that we could do cooking or washing.
I ended up having a great time but was running back and forth so often for water that the name just stuck that I was a Waterboy. In fact it went further than just our campsite in fact the one across the way started to call me that as well.
I like the fact that you took this prompt and tweaked it to suit your choice of which name you would tell about! I never thought to write about my nickname instead of my proper name. But, hey, maybe i did – because I posted a cup with “Jan” as well as my whole name of “Janet.” But yours was quite a different nickname. A fun story. Thanks for sharing, Waterboy!
